Ultracapacitors are energy storage devices that have shown outstanding capability in a vast spectrum of applications, mainly systems required to deliver short bursts electrical energy. possess high power density while batteries density. In this paper, hybrid device comprising lithium-ion ultracapacitor module and lead acid battery was modeled, built, tested for vehicular start–stop application, which requires much larger number engine cranking events than conventional vehicles. The combination with Li-ion ultracapacitors chosen due the fact majority vehicles utilize crank internal combustion engine. This allows retrofitting setup along feature without inflicting damage already installed battery. puts stress on battery, contributing its faster aging. is commonly found save unnecessarily burned fuel during idling. paper discusses aging as result being used equipped when alone versus setup. shows tests performed cars obtain voltage, current, power, requirements cranking. Mathematical derivation, analysis, an age estimation method also presented. A set followed by capacity checks two automobile systems, one other proposed module, show advantage integrating extend life span almost fivefold automobile.
